Mask Requirement Continues Indoors @ SMNG

3/10/2022 10:20 pm

Dear SMNG Families,

The health and safety of our students, teachers and staff continues to be our top priority as we continue to pivot again during this pandemic. The purpose of this notification is in response to Governor Newsom’s recent announcement that California will end the mask mandate for individuals in California schools effective 11:59 pm on March 11th. In his statement he emphasized that the California Department of Public Health continues to strongly recommend that individuals wear masks while indoors at school sites. Both San Mateo County Office of Education and San Mateo County Health Department uphold the recent updates to state guidance and strongly recommend the continued wearing of masks indoors at school sites.

SMNG has consistently been guided by and applied the health recommendations, guidance and requirements received from county and state health agencies throughout this pandemic. We believe it is because of our adherence to this guidance that we have been able to navigate a safe reopening this year. After seeking input from SMNG Board members, parents, teachers, and staff the last two weeks, our collective local decision is to continue requiring masks be worn indoors with a strong recommendation that masks be worn outside the classroom, effective March 12th until the end of this academic year.
